Case Study: Home Office / Content Creator Room Acoustic Treatment
Home Office Acoustic Treatment Case Study for a Content Creator in Malaysia
This case study documents a home office acoustic treatment project carried out for a content creator working from a residential space in Malaysia. The client required a controlled acoustic environment suitable for voice recording, online content creation, and virtual meetings, while still maintaining the comfort and aesthetics of a home workspace.
The main acoustic challenge in this room was excessive echo and sound reflections, which affected speech clarity and recording quality. Like many home offices, the room was not originally designed for professional audio use, resulting in reflected sound energy that caused vocal coloration and reduced intelligibility during recordings.
Acoustics Asia was engaged to design a targeted acoustic treatment solution that would address these issues without over-treating the space. The objective was to improve speech clarity, reduce echo, and create a more acoustically balanced environment suitable for professional content production.
By strategically positioning fabric acoustic panels at key reflection points, the room’s reverberation characteristics were significantly improved while preserving a clean and functional home office layout. The result was a noticeable enhancement in recording clarity and overall acoustic comfort, allowing the client to work more efficiently and confidently from their home studio.

Project Overview
A home-based content creator required a dedicated room with:
- clean audio
- controlled reverb
- better microphone pickup
- minimised outside noise
They needed an affordable, visually aesthetic solution that could serve as:
- a recording space
- workstation
- live-streaming room
- video call studio
Client’s Challenges
1. Echo & Room Reverb Affecting Recordings
Recordings sounded:
- hollow
- echoey
- unprofessional
2. Outside Noise Interference
Common issues included:
- neighbour sounds
- traffic
- household noise
3. Aesthetic Requirements
The client wanted something:
- modern
- colour-coordinated
- suitable as a backdrop for video shoots
Our Acoustic Assessment
We analysed:
- RT60 before: 1.2–1.5 seconds (too high for recording)
- low-frequency buildup from small room dimensions
- mid-high reflections impacting vocal clarity
Our Design & Solution
1. Fabric Acoustic Panels for Vocal Clarity
Installed behind the microphone and camera position to absorb:
- mid frequencies (voice range)
- slapback echo
- flutter echo
2. Bass Traps (Optional Upgrade)
Placed in corners to help stabilise low-frequency buildup.
3. Polyester Panels as Background Feature Wall
Chosen for:
- clean colours
- soft aesthetics
- light weight
- video-friendly textures
4. Door Seal Kit for Noise Control
Added foam perimeter seals to reduce airborne leakage
Results
| Acoustic Parameter | Before | After |
|---|
| RT60 | 1.2–1.5 sec | 0.35–0.5 sec |
| Recording Quality | Echoey | Studio-like clarity |
| Background Noise | Noticeable | Reduced significantly |
| Aesthetic | Plain | Professional, ready-to-shoot backdrop |
